Cultures define illness and other unexplained "misfortunes" through metaphors. The nature of these metaphors determines how illness will be perceived and treated. How has the United States made sense of HIV/AIDS and how has this impacted the lives of those who have contracted the disease?

Consider:

(2) the stigma associated with HIV/AIDS
(3) the designation of risk groups for HIV
